Blogging and Beauty on a Budget.

So, after all our skin care, did you think it was over???

NEVER. Skincare was preparation for this next stage of face week, Primer, colour correction & foundation

Let’s start with this, we all love makeup to look good and natural and not cakey. I for one hate it when makeup looks like you can chip it off like paint. I love that makeup can be versatile for both light wear and heavy wear but either way the way you treat your skin will be the reason your makeup either looks good or not the way you wanted it too. Another thing, before we get into this please don’t be discouraged, we all have methods that work for us, and that’s great, this is just one of the many ways I have mastered my makeup to suit my skin needs and my mood.

PRIMER – WHAT IS IT AND WHY SHOULD YOU USE IT?

If you a bit about painting a house or even your nails, you know that priming is big step, it’s the first step after your moisturizer that will make your skin adapt to the products you’re about to put on your skin.

Primer is the product that now can smooth your skin out. Let’s see what different kinds there are and method you can use.

  1. Pore minimizing - It will not magically shrink your pores but it will minimize the look or your pores by filling them in and smoothing out the surface of your skin
  2. Brightening – it will give your skin a brightening effect, the formula is designed to remove the dullness from your skin and will keep your skin from looking dull and flushed to rosy and bright.
  3. Sweat proof, blurring and SPF approved – this kind of primer is designed to extend makeup wear for a longer period of time, its created so that when you apply your face makeup to stay on and not stray. Also provides extra protection for when you sweat on those hot summer days and yes you can sunburn with makeup on and an SPF is perfect especially for day events. (Be careful wearing SPF at night if your taking pictures with a flash, it will create flashback).
  4. Primer Spray – Rose water is one great primer alternative and its so affordable, you just put it in a tight spray bottle and apply to your naked skin as you would your setting spray. It creates a tacky finish which also allows your makeup to dry a bit faster when applied. There is also a bunch of other prime sprays that do as well offer the same benefits and so far, I hear nothing but good things because they are so hydrating as well.

Primer is an important step because it’s the difference between your makeup sliding off, oxidising quickly and your skin texture just peaking out. And us ladies who get zits, or have acne it’s a great way to also save your skin. Primer is also a protective layer between your skin and your makeup, it saves your pores from getting blocked and it can help your skin if products may be too harsh that it also doesn’t give you a rash or worse burn or tint your skin. It’s a great affordable way to also make sure the time and effort you put into your skin care doesn’t get lost when you apply your makeup.

Current PRIMER favourites

  1. LA Girl Pro PREP HD Smoothing face Primer – It retails for R69.00 and it’s my one top favourite
  2. ESSENCE – Beauty angels colour correcting & You better work Gym Proof Primer – Both retail from R60 – R80.00 I use them together and apart
  3. ROSE WATER – Natures nourishment plain rose water can be used as a toner as well

CONCEALER & COLOUR CORRECTION

Because I myself have really struggled with colour correction because of my pigmentation problems, I have found a way to determine which colour you need for which problems or concerns and how to use them.

You will see I have attached a little colour correction template in which you can use to determine what which colour corrector to use for which skin condition or problem, I have tried to cover and research each to help as much as possible please let me know how it goes for you and if it was helpful?

With colour correction you need to first chose if you would like to use a cream base, powder base or even certain primers can be used to colour correct.

With a cream base like the LA girl Pro concealer and the Essence colour corrector tin, will be a full coverage application on the areas needed, which you can apply over your primer and under your foundation. You can blend it in using the end of a normal beauty blender, the mini beauty blenders or even a concealer brush. Please blend like you would foundation do not leave any streaks or lines but also do not blend the colour away because that’s exactly what you need to make It correct any problems.

My personal experience

I have noticed I can use a peach corrector that’s not too orange or too red, because my skin has a yellow undertone so in order for my foundation to be silk on my skin and still keeping its perfect shade and not have the concealer peak through, I use a mixture of the LA girl Orange corrector and the LA girl yellow corrector. This I apply after my primer

I lightly start under my eyes, my chin and any dark spots I may have, if its red pimples or marks I use a green corrector and I blend it out as referenced above. The main thing about concealers is not to be scared to try it, it’s a cost-efficient way to have even skin and beautiful makeup application all in one and it’s only going to be cakey if you didn’t take the time to blend it out.

Application after my foundation

This step is mainly for highlighting, or just enhancing places where you might have dark marks or even because you didn’t need to or want to colour correct (which please you don’t have to do it every time) I apply a thin layer of a shade 2 shades lighter than my skin tone. I have also attached a picture to show you in all the various places you most likely highlight, well where I do.

After you have applied your concealer blend it out as you would your foundation and set with your favourite setting powder. You need to set your highlight or it will just bleed and you wont notice or realise you’ve highlighted in any case.

FAVOURITES

  1. LA GIRL PRO CONCEALER – R69.00 EACH
  2. ESSENSE BLUR STICK – R45.00
  3. ESSENCE COMPACT CONCEALER – R65.00 FOR (3-5 SHADES)
  4. WET N WILD CONCEALER – R45.00 I BOUGHT IT ON SPECIAL AT CLICKS

FOUNDATION – LETS APPLY IT LIKE BUTTER

So this is one you know I've been researching for the longest time, if you go further on into my blog you will see I did an entire 'how to' with foundation also how to pick your correct shade and undertone.

So this part of the series is actually just to show you how your foundation works with the correct primer and colour correction. It's also a bit of guide on how you can apply makeup for different finishes and textures

  • The thing you need to determine is your look, and I'd you're going for a dewy natural look you can use a combination of the brightening primer with a pink corrector for added brightness, a good foundation for dewy looks are the Yardley oatmeal foundations and a touch of the LA illuminating foundation.
  • If you're going for a matte look with sharp finishes I suggest you use any or even a combination of corrector with an HD or sweat proof primer for maximum hold, Colour pay off and protection through out the day, a good foundation suggestion is the Maybelline Fit me pore-less and matte foundation or the new foundation I've been using the wet n wild photo focus finish foundation.

In addition to these combinations for full coverage always use a stipling or flat edge foundation brush and for a dewy more natural finish to use a makeup sponge.

When blending make sure you blend into your hairline and under your jawline it creates a even coating and keeps your skin looking even even away from your face.

Tips when applying foundation, if you want your to foundation to dry faster wet your beauty sponge with setting spray or rose water and your results will be so much more different, if your using a brush and you get a few streak lines you can smooth it out with a sponge aswell if you would like to look air brushed.

Ladies last but not least have some fun and always be kind to your skin, if you wear makeup every day take extra care even get a CC or BB cream and make sure to exfoliate once a week.

Foundation Favourites

LADIES ALL YOU NEED TO BE IS CONFIDENT AND PROUD OF THE SKIN YOU'RE IN. ALSO WEARING MAKEUP SHOULD BE FUN AND SURPRISING AND LEARNING IS SOMETHING THAT COMES WITH EVERY NEW PRODUCT. YOU CAN SO DON'T EVER BE
SHY. YOU CAN DO IT.

Blogging and Beauty on a Budget.

Good Day all my Beautiful Readers

Here we go right back at it with Instalment number two of FACE WEEK. I’ve gotten a few weird why do you call it face week and not skin week’ the reason is cause the focus on this week is our faces, and therefore does not refer to our other skin. Trust me that part we will cover in a different Series, please be patient with me. I have got this all planned out.

So yesterday we Covered Masks and Scrubs, today we Cover FACE WASH, FACE TONER & Moisturiser. Many women think that just using either or is fine, and yes to some degree it really is. But with ladies who either wear makeup often or touch their faces a lot, we tend to actually spread germs around our faces without even realising we are. So, in this part of the series, we touch on facial cleaning and care. 😊

LET’S GO!

First, how to pick a face wash, its pretty simple. As I made a NOTE yesterday, please ladies if you’ve got any severe skin conditions and you can’t just use regular or drugstore products please consult your doctor or dermatologist before putting any products on your skin that you are unaware of. It can be harmful for your skin and it would be more difficult to correct that damage than just dealing with your everyday skin care problems. Please take care of you first. THANK YOU 😊

Picking out the right Face was, you need to determine what you want first, do you want to minimise pores, even out skin tone, reduce redness the list is endless. You need to know what you want, like me, I like using face washes that will even out my skin tone, because I discolour easily, and also remove blackheads because my pores suck up all the dirt.

Then you need to choose a brand, I suggest you change your brands at the most 3 times a year, yes, its normal for your skin to get used to a bunch of the same products which will allow you to change them but not entirely stop using them, skin can be very resilient if you are kind to it.

Establish a budget, please understand your products if used well should last a good 3-4 months even 5. So, look at it as an investment instead of something you would have to keep repurchasing every month.

Now that you’ve got all those three things figured out here is the fun part. I am going to give you a few reasons and benefits behind using face wash and some options, definitely some favourites.

Reasons to use face wash
  •         As I mentioned earlier touching your face just spreads a lot of germs through out your face
  •         When we sleep our skin then gets time to revitalise itself when you wash it you have a better chance of your skin looking and feeling fresh
  •       Also removes oil build up
Benefits of Washing your face
  •          Lightens dark spots
  •         Reduces acne scars or any facial scars you may have
  •         Soothes sunburn
  •         Tightens skin
  •         Reduces fine lines
  •         Promotes good circulation
Some face wash options and favourites 😊
  • Yardley Oatmeal Range (spot preventing) R69- R80.00 each
  • Garnier even and matte R60-R79.00 each
  • Isabella Garcia from R120-R300.00 each
  • Natures Nourishment by Dischem from R50.00 – R70.00 each

My Favourite Face wash right now is the Yardley Oatmeal range its affordable and it has the best results besides my Isabella Garcia range which I use when my skin is in big trouble. Its got a few other ranges from oil control, even skin and dry skin prevention all available at Dischem or Online

TONER
This product actually gets lost on a few people, they sometimes think it’s a silly step, but it’s the step that has the most benefits I wont even lie.
Toner is very helpful for people who have acne, scaring or even oily skin. Because it’s the most chemically formulated step in your skin care routine, it van either strip your skin of non-essential oils and germs and can even moisturise.

Reasons to use a Toner

-          It minimises pores well shrinks actually
  •          It Restores your skins PH balance soap can cause a build up of oil and the toner will then restore that problem and help your skin fight off the oil cells and keep your skin at its natural level.
  •          It can refresh skin
  •          Works as a moisturiser if you need it to

      Benefits of using toner
  •         It Can prevent ingrown hairs
  •         It adds a layer of protection so over time your skin can start fighting off bacteria and germ easily
  •      If you don’t have time to wash you skin you can use it to refresh your skin and it will revitalize it

Some tried and trusted toners
  •          The Isabella Garcia Witch Hazel Toner (please note if you’ve got dry skin this will peel your skin off its very strong, mix it with rose water if you really would like to try it out and use it as a mist rather) Retails for R120-200
  •          Garnier Even and Matte Toner (this has a shampoo like texture so I didn’t actually like it, it made me feel like I was putting glue on my face) Its R69.00
  •         Apple Cider Vinegar (it has amazing properties and works with any skin type, it does smell bad though so if you would like to dilute it with about ¼ of water and use as a toner or even rose water) R40-R100.00
Sadly, I have not tried the Yardley toner range because my skin took well to the Isabella Toner and my best friend gave me and extra bottle when she ordered her pack because she has combination skin, which is sensitive and dry as well.

Let’s MOISTURISE

Okay so with moisturising comes the trick.
Do not use thick body creams unless you want your face to become oily over time, they contain ingredients that work well for the rest of your body but your face is more delicate. Go rather for hydrating moisturisers that contain good product or vitamins like Tea Tree with is great for preventing infections and bacteria for sticking onto your skin and vitamin E to keep your skin awake and looking Rosey.

I have been on a good hunt for this and YUP I have found a few but also learned so much along the way.
Although moisturisers don’t necessarily combat skin issues, they do however keep your skin glowy and full of life.

When using moisturisers, they are for hydration either thought out the day or night and your skin will keep its shine instead of looking dull and grey. It should feel like your putting water on your face yet the cool sensation lasts for a while through out the day, it will help to combat dry and flaky skin.
Remember even using a gel formula moisturiser is so much better than actual creams. So be careful.

  • My favourite light weight moisturiser is the Yardley Oatmeal Spot preventing moisturizer, its light, goes into my skin really nicely and has the best texture and smell.
  • Another brand I have tried is the Natures Nourishment Vitamin E face cream, its way to thick but the vitamin E content was beautiful. When mixed with my Yardley it was a match made in heaven, both retail from R50-R79.00 at you guessed it Dischem Pharmacy.
This combination is my current skincare routine that's been working for me and I don't Regret it one bit.

So, Ladies when going through the aisles feeling either overwhelmed or unsure, please be kind to yourself. It will be okay; your skin will replenish and you will get the results if you yourself put in the work and don’t mind falling on your butt a few times.

And there we go ladies Day Two of Face Week Smashed, let me know how I have been doing so far.

Good Day Tulips Readers. ☺️

On behalf of Takkiesandtulips I want to wish all my headers a phenomenal New Year.
I pray that every single desire of your heart is met.
♥️

I took a step back a while ago and I wanted to make my blog exist in series. I know it's very time consuming and takes a lot of planning but ever since I did my 5 days or 5 posts I felt like I reached the audience I had been looking for and I didn't want to disappoint anyone let alone myself.
I will either be displaying each Series within a week or a month depending on the topic so please let me know how this new idea is working after our first try.

I've named my first Series FACE WEEK.
The reason I did was because we've either all come back from vacation or holidays of some kind or even just a few days of fun in the sun or out with our family and friends. Eaten yummy foods and exotic sweets and just thrown all the rules out the window but our skin does reflect what's happening both on the inside and the outside of our bodies. I wanted this series to be one that can rejuvenate our skin and get us glowing into 2019.
First topic I am going to touch on is

FACE MASKS

I actually posted on my Instagram story on the 5 of January and I got a few ladies asking me to hand them out some fask mask recommendations and tips.
Guuurrrlllss I got you'll. ✌️
First of all before you buy a mask you have to establish your skin condition.
For example I have combination skin where I discolour easy, break out easy and have oily skin without even applying products but the catch is it depends on the season cause in wintery skin is the opposite and I have to give it a bit more Vitamin E than usual to get us looking fresh and awake.
After you've determined your skin needs then you can start with 'branding'. In all honesty the first skin Mask brand I used was @freemanbeauty its a phenomenal brand with such a wide selection and they are not stingy with product.

The freeman range are ones you need to apply either with a brush or applicator of your choice like a spatula of some sort. It range from clay to pull off masks and even masks that contain a scrub content in order to kill two birds with one stone and if I'm honest it's their best work thus far.
There is a few other brands I have tried in between such as Beauty Treats and Skin Republic.
I've used a Blueberryask from Beauty Treats and a a hydrating mask from Skin republic they both retail for R39.50 at Dischem Pharmacy.
I liked them both but I feel like my skin needs were not entirely met as apposed to the Freeman Brand. They Retail from R28.00 to R100. 00 at Dischem and that is for the 175ml bottles and not the sachets that I've tried out first to see if the product works for my skin first. It's a great money saver if it doesn't.

Okay now to get into the good stuff the reasons to use a Face Mask and the benefits.

Let's start with the reasons first
- To penetrate deep into the skin without harsh damage
- To help with completion, texture, skin conditions and any minor or major skin problems we may be experiencing
- Results are immediate and even work still over a period of time
- It's affordable as well as a great gift for anyone who loves skincare.

Benefits
- Refines skin pores
- Hydrates your skin
- Can help with fine lines
- Creates a layer of new skin to come through and therefore keeps skin healthier for longer
- Helps with texture and complexion. Also it can make your skin look more awake than dull
- Also you save on spa treatments

FACE SCRUBS

We all know that the reason to use a scrub is to remove dead layers of skin and promotes better new skin growth
Now. Please. Ladies. If you have sensitive skin do not, I repeat do not use a scrub without testing it on the outer rim of your face first.
Face Scrubs can also be tricky do not try and use a scrub with a tool your first time around I suggest you use a scrub with your two fingers first and scrub from the inside of your face to the outside in small circles and then rising it off with Luke warm water.

PSA- Please do not use a scrub if you've got skin with small pores or no pores if you're blessed. And if you have got severe skin conditions like Acne, Eczema or Rosacia please contact a doctor or Dermatologist first.

Good Scrubs I have found are definitely Isabella Garcias Apricot scrub which retails for R120. 00 my friend Charndre has been using the range as well and she has got sensitive skin and so if any of the ladies need a second opinion head to her page I will link it on all my current social media

Other great brands are
- Dischem Tea Tree scrub R50. 00
- WOOLWORTHS milk apricot scrub R60. 00
- Yardley oatmeal Scrub R65. 00

The reasons and benefits to use a face scrub are

REASONS
- It is a great exfoliation technique
- It's also another great money saver
- It promotes healthy sin growth

BENEFITS
- It makes your skin silky and smooth to the touch
- It diminishes fine lines caused by ageing
- It can prevent breakouts
- it helps correct skin tone

Ladies. This week is week where we not just rave about brands but tackle our skin head on and also prevent all the problems that could arise by being ahead of the problem.
Another awesome thing is this takes no time at all. It takes you 20 minutes to do both or 10 minutes each for them separately.
You are in charge of how you want your skin to react yes we don't have control over everything but prevention is better than cure and if you've got an important day coming up. What does it hurt to try and awesome trick that can possibly save your skin in time of need.

DAY ONE OF FACE WEEK IS COMPLETE 🥀
